So if automated researcher looks imminent (evidence including labs’ public statements, Noam interview, uplift doubling trend, TasteVal : research :: AIME : pro math, pretraining is fully verifiable like math, etc…) The real question is if labs can use their army of ARs plus a freshly streamlined data collection apparatus to attain superhuman strategy, persuasion, forecasting and mastery of all those other juicy non-verifiable domains before people notice what’s going on.

In this interview I tried to argue that a post-scarcity society will benefit working people. It was largely a rhetorical failure. People don’t trust that the benefits will be distributed, and tech optimists have to fix this communications issue.

Global slowdown is so clearly in everyone’s interest :) Datacenters humming, curing rare diseases and automating alignment research instead of making themselves smarter. Humans have time to digest breakthroughs and make art. Just a lil collective action problem.

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
