US legal requirements to screen genomic material being ordered and who is ordering it is common sense safety & security. This letter shows support for this in research & public health community, key industry sectors, & security community. Congress should move forward on it x.com/alecstapp/stat…
Trying to build new alternative to WHO for international disease surveillance from standing start is practically infeasible and many times the cost of being part of WHO, which would provide the best possible global source for that information. 1/x washingtonpost.com/health/2026/02…
The Administration says WHO needs reforms but has not explained what reforms it wants. It should re-engage now and work to bring about constructive changes that will make it stronger and more effective for the US and the world. / end
Leaving WHO is a direct message to the rest of the world that the US is not interested in helping to keep the world a place safe from new health emergencies or epidemics, and that it doesn’t want to be part of a common effort to help improve health around the world. 6/x
Even putting aside the many concrete ways that WHO serves US interests, the mission of WHO to improve health and prepare for emergencies around the world is so clearly worth supporting in its own case.7/x
